Hi, I’m
Matthew
Cairns is an absolute paradise!
I live in the Tropical North Queensland city of Cairns with my beautiful wife Alisha, our new son Elijah and our two Chihuahuas; Dizmo and Manuel. We LOVE it up here!
Where it all started… When I was 10 years old my very wise mum gave me her late 70’s Canon AE-1, which successfully planted the seed.
My background
After High School, I worked in the Graphic Design field for 3 years before deciding to broaden my horizons with a degree in Multimedia. It was at that point I realised my complete obsession with all things photography.
The moment I did, I went ‘all in’. I began spending every hard-earned cent on buying the best photography equipment and perfecting my skill set.
Fast forward to today and I now have 10 incredible years of experience in the wedding industry throughout North Queensland, Australia and many overseas destinations.
I’m able to combine my love of design, photography and technology to capture the most exciting and precious moments of a couple’s life. I honestly feel like I’m one of the luckiest people in the world.
FAQs
How long have you been shooting weddings?
10 years. I can’t believe it’s been that long now!
Where are you based and do you travel?
I live in Cairns and mostly shoot weddings in Port Douglas, Palm Cove, Mission Beach and the Tablelands. I love to travel though and take every opportunity to do so for weddings.
What cameras do you use?
I change system a lot. This is expensive, but I always want to be using the best equipment for photographing weddings. I currently use the Sony A9 because it’s silent and never misses focus.
What is your style at a wedding?
I shoot in a candid style for most of the day, trying my best to capture the wedding as it happens with all of it’s emotions. I’ll pose people when needed, but in a natural way. Every wedding is different, so I’m constantly adapting where needed.
What is the best time of the year to get married in Tropical North Queensland?
The most popular time of year for weddings is April-November. December-March is great for family shoots and engagement shoots.
How many photos do you take on the day and how many edited photos will I receive?
I take thousands, but only so I can pick the very best. I deliver around 100 images per hour of coverage.
How long do I have to wait for my photos?
Early in the year I’ll deliver your photos within 2-3 weeks, later in the year closer to 4-5 weeks.
Do you have an assistant or second shooter?
I shoot alone, but I still capture everything. I’ve never found a 2nd shooter to be necessary!
We’re camera shy, is that ok?
Most of the couples I shoot are camera shy till they realise my style. Once you start a photo session with me you’ll find it super easy.
How much coverage do we need?
I have options for short coverage all the way up to full day. I find that for an elopement 2-3 hours is perfect. For a small wedding you might want to skip on the reception coverage if it’s just a simple dinner. Reception coverage is worthwhile if you have speeches and dancing.
Should we have an unplugged ceremony?
I’m a strong believer in this, not so people don’t get in my way, but to make sure people are paying attention without distractions.
How do we book you in?
Fill in my contact form or give me a call! I require a retainer to secure the date, once that’s paid I’m booked in.
